Trevala Alternatives

I’ll weigh in. i had that exact model and i did extensive research before i bought it. i was told by sales rep not to “high stick” these rods ( or any slow pitch rod for that matter) high sticking is basically our typical “tips up “method of fighting a fish. with those trevalas, most of the fluttering action is imparted on the tip of the rod,

It’s better to set the hook, and then keep your rod tip pointed downwards when fighting your ling. Your reel should have enough line retrieval to keep up the slack on a fish. more important when salmon fishing over bottom fishing
kind of defeats the purpose of a good rod used for the right application.

My thoughts exactly , prob high stickin . I have a set of the lighter green ones with the split butt that have all the epoxy cracked off , a few eyes rusted off , left outside by accident at a buddies cabin for a few months . Had to use them in a pinch last year and still did just fine !

I'm still looking for the perfect jigging rod for salmon only.I tried the trevalla ,but found the 6-6 rod too short for my liking, It is good for Hally which is what I use it for now. Do's Shimano (Trevalla) or west coast make a med fast action strictly for jigging salmon in the 9 Ft. range?
