I for 1 am thrilled to see the transients making regular appearances again.........
Its time to thin the heard of harbour seals

Great video. Thanks for posting this DB. I had a crew working down at the PBS yesterday and they saw the whole thing. The captain of one of the boats invited them up to the bridge to look at the whole show through some really nice binoculars. They told me all about it when they got back. They said one of the scientists raced out there in a boat to try and get some Orca scat.

It is nice to see so much marine activity in the Straight:).

Very cool, never witnessed dolphin's together with Orcas quite like this but the short segment of video gave me the impression that it wasn't a vicious attack. I could certainly be wrong but with Transients attacking seals it seems more vicious than this - bloodied water and more violent movements. This almost looked like aggressive playing - do we know dophins were slaughtered at this event ? If Residents swam along side dolphins I wonder what the display or actions would be ?

Yup.....dolphins down! There is more footage I saw last night on a news report(might be still photos) of a dolphin being batted up in the air and there is notable blood in the spray. At least two were killed from what I heard on the same report.

Just found the other report.

Awesome thanks for this second link - answers my query!

Awesome to see! A very similar hunt took place a couple years ago that I know of in Bargain Harbour on the Sunshine Coast. I saw an amazing photo on the cover of the local paper with the orcas in hot pursuit.

And here's a link. It sounds like they got away. But apparently quite a chase took place.

Interesting.
Back in the 60s we used to vacation at a campground in Halfmoon bay, my folks were friends with the owner there.
One day the Orcas herded seals into the bay and were chasing them right up onto the beach, I was just a young gaffer but remember standing on the bluff completely mesmerized watching as the entire campground flocked to the beach to watch.
There was so much blood and scraps in the water it was unreal, one scurried far up the beach with its tail end ripped off people were trying to help.
The owner told me the whales did that quite frequently with salmon and herring (those must have been locals) but this was the first time with seals he seen.
A couple years later on that same beach I got to see the same thing when the whales herded the herring in, I still remember the sound of literally thousands of herring flinging themselves onto the beach to avoid the whales only to be scooped up by seagulls and campers who flocked to the beach, even a family of mink came out of the rocks to pounce on a few.
Wicked hunting machines

There was a much reported case of the transients cornering a minke whale in Ganges harbour on Saltspring... Apparently some people got hysterical and started throwing rocks at the orcas as they were chewing on the minke. They must have been vegetarians, or they thought it is only acceptable to eat meat when it comes wrapped in cellophane!!!!

There's a hysterical vegetarian woman who lives (or lived) on St Mary Lake she threatened a number of Bass fishermen-until she threatened the wrong person who quietly & very seriously put her straight-last I heard of she hadn't been seen shaking her fist and screaming @ Bass fishermen ever again.

I was on that ferry, it was a spectacular show and lasted for a while, a good 15-20 minutes, there was actually a sea lion in the water right by the ferry so I wasn't too sure at first if they were transients or that was one dumb sea lion, lol. We live in a pretty incredible part of the world, amazing to see what we do while out fishing or doing whatever on this coast.

I remember that footage from a number of years back.....it was pretty amazing.
