transducer mounting

Last yr I put a Garmin 178c on my Double Eagle 206. I am happy with the unit & am planning on buying another one to put on a new to me 26 Tollycraft. The Garmin 178c can only be bought with a transom mnt. transducer I'm told (someone please correct me if I've been misled) The back of the boat has two full length trim tabs & I can't see where I could mnt the transducer. Any ideas? If thats true then I want to know if its possible to mnt. a transom transducer to shoot through the hull? I've heard its possible! The hull is solid glass but quite thick, maybe up to an inch thick. The sender is duel frequency 50/200. Is there a temporary bonding agent to stick the transducer to the hull inside to find out? How would I test it to find out or am I wasting my time. Thanks Brian

In board or out board motor? can you mount it under the motor or the leg? at the very bottom of the V or close to it? We had our transducer mounted to high, when travelling would not get a signal to the sounder. So we mounted it lower down right by the bottom V under the motor.. never had a problem ever again...

Straight from Garmin:
Q. Can I use my transom mount transducer as a "shoot-through" transducer?
A. Provided the hull of your boat is solid fiberglass without a core (wood, foam, etc.) and the thickness of the fiberglass does not exceed one inch, you should be able to "shoot through". It is recommended that you use a slow-curing marine epoxy and mount the transducer as close to level with the surface of the water as possible.

Or you could but it here without the transducer, and select a through hull or in-hull for your needs.
