Trailering down gravel roads.

Hey all. Just wondering if any of you have a way of protecting your boat from rocks when traveling down gravel roads. If you do have a certain setup, how does it work for you?

you can get rock deflectors which look like a big mesh wing than you mount onto your trailer. mudflaps also help on the truck for sure.

put a garbage bag over your lower unit to not get dust inside the water intake.
also smart to take off your trailer lights, rocks like to crack them.


like this but ive seen them in mesh so there removeable. alot of the yanks use them for trailering up

I saw a guy in Gold River one day who had attached a small sheet of plywood with big U-bolts similar to the photo in the above post. It went straight across almost the full width of the truck. seemed to work very well.

You will find that the road dust will get under rollers and act like sandpaper. With every bump in the road the dust and rollers grind away at the gelcoat taking away the waxy top layer, leaving it dull looking. Never found away to prevent that, the dust pretty much goes where it wants to.

Aluminum boat. Gravel and sand just make it shiny!

A good set of mud flaps if you have rear wheel drive. If you spin going up a hill, your boat gets a rock shower without them.

Thanks for the input guys. I just ordered some fender flares and I will custom make some mudflaps. The deflector system looks good. Even if I have to make one.

Out on the prairie grid roads you see these things on a lot of trucks: Towtector-Shield-Towing-Mud-Flaps-Brushstrip-Protector. It not only cuts down the rocks but also the lovely muddy spray when it rains. It also doesn't blow up very much at high speed like rubber mud flaps so it cuts down on highway spray.
