Tragedy in Howe Sound off Anvil Island this past weekend

When I heard this story on the radio on the weekend it sent chills up my spine. My family heard it and called ..... just to check.

I grew up doing summers on and around Gambier Is and Anvil Island especially so know the area very well ......and now fishing the sound, often too out there alone with my young daughter.
I live near the dental office mentioned and my family has used that father's dental services. I don't know the details of how this happened but its such a tragedy and very very sad.

I do complain about the small things at times - and how dare I fuss about such trivial issues....like a recent outboard motor problem ....how ridiculous, a mere bump in the road.

Appreciate what you have and enjoy every moment out there. Give your kids a hug because you can ....and above all be safe as possible out there.

I was out at Ekins Pt. on the N. side of Gambier the night it happened. Kudos to Search and Rescue for all their work scouring the area. I've been hugging my 6 y.o. daughter every chance I get ever since. Very very sad indeed.

So sad, know the area well. Spent all my summers at Hopkins Landing growing up at my grandmothers cabin.
The things we all get away with on the water just slip by us sometimes.
Stay safe out there. Gonna hug my 21 year old daughter today(even though she has strep throat)!

Yeah, that's an awful story really feel for everyone involved. Its also a bit of a mystery as there were no mechanical issues with the boat, all his cellphone and belongings etc were still in the boat and plenty of gas, so hard to understand why two people would go over. Maybe the child went over and he jumped in to save her is all I can think. Really too bad no one saw them in the water as that area is pretty well traveled.
