TR-1 Gold vs A78 MFD

Hi everyone.
Been away from my boat and this site for a couple of years but am back and want to go fishing..
I have a Garmin Tr-1 Gold and tried connecting it to my Raymarine A78 mfd but they won't talk to each other. The A78 does talk to my 3comm marine radio for location but even that is sketchy as it sometimes wont. I have the Sea talk to NMEA 0138 converter.

Does anyone have any tips other than getting rid of the A78?

Thanks!!

Has anyone connected their TR-1 Gold to any plotter? Is it worth doing?
Do people still use the TR-1?

Thanks!!

TR-1 Gold is NMEA 0183 only.

There is some support out there. Just google 'TR-1 gold to Raymarine' and you should find help for your config. You'll have to make sure your 0183 network is configured properly.

Suggestion would be 0183 is really old and you'll probably be chasing your tail more than the reward is worth.

Can you connect a Raymarine EVO-150 to your A78?

Might be better...

Just looked at the EVO-150. It's an autopilot for the main motor but I only want to control the kicker like the TR-1 does. Nice system though.

Yes - my apologies I was thinking you were using a TR1-Gladiator not a TR1-Gold (even though you said GOLD explicitly (main vs. kicker). My mistake.

Just for any future searches. I have success in connecting the TR-1 Gold to the Gps but not the Raymarine. I have a spare Garmin 172C that I use as a backup. The tr-1 connects easily to that GPS. Set the baud rate to 4800 and now works fine. The Raymarine is connected to the VHF and seems to work fine now as well.
