I wouldn't have got off so lucky-nor would the whale for that matter-We always sleep on the hook but our rhode is a 100 ft of 3/8 chain. Got to think about this a little and come up with a plan that's viable!!!!!
That is a $250,000 Oceansport (my dream boat) that is being dragged away. I'm sure the father wanted his kid to keep that camera rolling in case they ended up in a total loss insurance claim. Who would believe that story without the video to back it up.
I always thought whales can somehow sense lines in the water and avoid them. Had whales several times swim under my boat while fishing and they never touched a cable or line. After seeing this I will think twice about leaving the downrigger cables down when the whales come through....
I had a whale snap off a cannonball this summer. Scared the crap out my guests and I. Had a bunch of others come close. I find humpbacks and greys not nearly as aware of their surroundings as compared to killer whales.
