Toolbox - What tools?

What’s the chainsaw file and emery cloth for?
Emery cloth is great for cleaning up corroded whatever's, electrical connections etc. Nicer than trying to scrape corrosion off with a knife. A file is indispensable if you need to make something metal a different shape, remove damage to an external thread etc. Neither has a specific use case in mind. For me they're light, take up almost no space, and in the case of the file, have no reasonable substitute in many situations.

I like the epoxy stick. I totally forgot that I have one of those as well - JB Weld Putty Stick. It probably wishful thinking - If I ever cracked a weld how would I diagnose / find the leak? My boat is self bailing so the deck is fully sealed. Seems unlikely that I'd be able to dive under my boat, spot a crack and then successfully repair.

Yet I still have one.

Great suggestions so far.

Anyone have any recommendations on a medium sized / waterproof toolbox? Also, to deal with any moisture - maybe some desiccant silica packs?

Plano make a few waterproof boxes that hold a fair amount of stuff

Don’t forget a wrench for your bilge plug
Don’t forget to use it lol, two boats sunk at the ramp this weekend, one was a friend of mine, had to help with my tools , hoping to salvage the motors they both got submerge, mechanic in Renfrew is working on it starting Tuesday, but ya put the dam plug in before you put it in the drink

After forgetting the plug once (angry shouts as I charged through the harbour, back to the ramp, bilge pump running a steady stream) I tied some pink surveyors ribbon to my plug. My wife’s suggestion. Sounds silly but so far, it has worked. So far…

I keep an insulated spark plug wire puller tool in the tool bag. Haven’t used it since I went four-stroke, but needed to locate a bad plug a couple of times on the old merc two-smoke. Just keep pulling wires, one at a time, until the RPM doesn’t change. I hate getting zapped and those pliers eliminate the risk. A set of new (or good used) plugs is good insurance too.

With the new engines now, that are basically a computer, is there many tools needed to get them running when they aren't happy?

Spare fuel filters and a strap wrench.
