Just received this tragic news
To All:
It is with deep sadness that I write to inform you of the passing of our dear friend Tom Bird. Tom suffered a stroke on Monday and passed away last night in Comox. Tom was a lifelong friend and advocate for the sport fishing community who dedicated his life to fishing. He served our community as a civil servant, an Executive Director of the SFI, a board member, and a Fraser Panel member. He volunteered countless hours to the promotion and conservation of sport fishing. Indeed as I write this, I am hard pressed to think of an issue that our community has dealt with in the last two decades that Tom was not involved in.
On behalf of the board of directors and membership of the SFI, I would like to extend our sincerest condolences to his wife Carol and son Owen and offer our support during this difficult time.
Tom was a friend and mentor to many including myself. I benefitted greatly from his wealth of knowledge, patience and humor.
He will be missed
