They say you can always tell a guy from Alberta because they cover their boat as soon as the rain starts. I travel a lot and see hundreds of boats out all year round with no covers.Personally, I like to keep mine covered. However, it usually loads a little off keel because the kicker and prawn puller, and me are all on the same side. This causes some water to be sitting in the corner at the stern.Should I be concerned with this ?
Opinions on to cover or not welcome!

I would cover it. boats that sit in the elements seem to age way way faster. We looked at a boat that sat two years uncovered it was only an 8 year old boat and it was pretty much destroyed. Not that expensive and ushually adds some years to it.

Agreed. I store my boat in the front yard and find that leaves and tree sap stained the heck out of the boat. Got myself a cover and it keeps the boat looking (and smelling) much nicer.

BTW: great cheap product for removing stubborn stains from fiberglass and vinyl are those little "Magic Eraser" pads from Arm & Hammer.

Covering your boat is actually to protect it from more than just the rain. You will find that covering it is even more useful to protect it from UV radiation form the sun. While mildew eats away at rubber seals, more damage to fibreglass is caused by the sun (even on cloudy days)

Covering is a great idea to protect your gelcoat, vynal etc. However the guy who made my canvas says that you should remove the canvas top before you cover it because the friction from your tarp will distroy your soft top.

Hey guys, any idea what I should use to remove spruce sap drops that fell on the boat? Thanks, SS

Hey Striper,

That pic freaked me out. I have nearly the identical rig. Course I can't tell exactly because I can't seem to enlarge it to really tell.
Mine is a 2007 23' Striper ( Hard top) with a 225 FS Yamaha all pulled by a 2007 f150 fx4 Crew Cab.

How do you post a pipc???? I can't seem too get the function to work

Cheers

stuff called barkeepers friend is way better. Get it in walmart in the usa,1.87 a can. it gets the black crap line at the stern, the yellow fraser waterstains and good for the rv too

Cover it but allow air to circulate or you will get mold on the seats and in other areas. I use one of those 10x20 ft shelters that you can pickup at CostCo or Capital Iron. I leave my boat open under the shelter and it's dry, mildew free and doesn't get hit with UV rays.
