Timely fishing reports

I'm a very laid back guy but I have to wonder what the purpose of a fishing report is when the guy reports an event that happend a week ago! Does he think his report is actualling helping someone or is he just grandstanding and saying "look what I caught-too bad it was last week!We can't always report the night we get home but the next day would be good and perhaps that would help someone improve their chances. Isn't that the reason why we bother to report in the first place?

Are you talking about someone here on the forum posting? If yes then I am sorry dude but relax! This forum does not fullfill a duty as instantaneous fishing live ticker. Many here including myself enjoy a good report and fish story and pics no matter how old.

Who cares when the report comes in as long as it says when it was. Don't think we have to get to anal about it. Almost like a bunch of women looking for something to ***** about. No need to apologize Chris73, take it back! What a waste of a thread.

Fishing reports serve as a sort of historical record as well. The beauty of this board is I can reference previous years fishing reports as a sort of log in some ways to see what's going on at what times of year. Of course a little bit of "pride" occurs in a fishing report for those that catch fish but there are lots of skunks reported as well so who cares. Enjoy you life and go fishing! Good on a guy who puts in the time to going fishing and then report the results of his efforts.

Must have ruffled a few feathers!! I like a good fish story as well as the next guy and I certainly tell my share. I always pay attention to a current fish reports good or bad-particularly if the report is about an area that is a good distance away (for most of us) such as Bamfield, Nootka , Port hardy etc. I guess I find it frustrating when someone puts in a "report" 2 weeks after the fact that might have helped a few guys with their planning. Case in point-earlier this spring Osama put in a post on Bamfield and the number of Springs that were there and how he had just come in from slaying them-I have only fished Bamfield once before, but his report was so current that we hitched up and found his report to be accurate. If he had posted 2 weeks later-sure it would have been an interesting story but would have helped no one and we would have missed a great trip!! So if it's great or abysmal trip and the place doesn't get reported on frequently-if you have some advise please report as soon as possible so members could use your info.

Seems like the distinction between a "report" and a "story" is the currency of the info. I try to report promptly after a trip. Just the facts: general location, conditions, gear, fish, depth. Takes less than 5 minutes to get that up. I don't post after every trip, but if it seems like my info will be helpful (ie no other current reports on that area, or something unusual happened) I try to post.

But for good stories, rather than simple reports, I will take a long time to get to it. That kind of a post takes much longer to write.

any report is a good one I'd say! even if its a week late (keep in mind some of us don't have a smart phone welded to our arm, I dont even have a smartphone period)

But info is rarely a bad thing. You can still use that late report to look back to years past at the time the fish were being caught from the late report. It can still be usefull.

okay heres a report from yesterday at port hardy halibut fishing off airport nada 2 nice grey cod thou 1 15 lber halibut behind masterman on way home

x2:rolleyes:.....I like a good "story" or "chest pounding" which is what SOME reports are here...and will post the odd one for the "whole world" not just members to see/read....most of my trips I just like to keep to myself, dont think I'm alone on that?..never had a bad trip out on the water, fish or no fish....if I posted on everything I did I'd be pushing 1000,hell maybe 2000 posts ..anybody who knows me can get detailed info any time from where I've been....post away wether its up to the second info or a month ago:)

I'd like to report on what our fleet does every day but just isnt practical for time during busy season. I guess I could be one of those that writes more of a two week recap than daily updates but that is all that time will allow. Sure not trying to hold back anything current to keep secrets...we try and be as helpful and transparent as possible. Stop in our shop and ask for an update and we will shoot you the straight goods with no BS

Fresh update, One 30 pound Halibut just outside of Lennard light 30 minutes ago. 125 feet of water on a white Power Bait with Octopus piggy backed...

I'll take a old week report and pics all year long lol ,

Jeffs a pro guide , he lives there , hes on the water ALOT , every once in a while hes in a great mood , and throws us all a juicy mid east bone.... I dont see many guides posting daily , THERE TOO BUSY.......%95 of this forum are just guys like you and I , Sporty's havin fun..
i believe even a week old report is very encouraging and hopefull , for the guys heading over soon , some give info on depth , baits , wheres , whats etc.... thats HUGE...
sure things change quickly , but sure helps Fever , If everyone posts factual live reports here , the fishing would suck , there would be 10,000 boats fishing every reported area lol.. Just doesnt work that way , especially with todays smart phones...

why not just get on the VHF and tell the world ya just hooked 4 monsters at Meares at 90 feet on a white hoochie : ),

ya get my point Fever , your a seasoned vet , Now go to the corner and think about what ya just said.... : )

your inputs and info is always appreciated here Fever... it just is what it is,,,

FD- yeah I guess you're right- probably why I don't belong to facebook. LoL I'm usually plotting and planning my trips (some might say micro managing) so I know where I'm hitting with what! Had a great season! Time to lighten up before the Mexican season starts.!

Might be useful if DFO made more detail from the creel surveys available. They have rolled up data from 2009 and earlier at http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/stats/rec/index-eng.htm, but if you could get the detail for a specific area and date range, and maybe load it into a spreadsheet, you might come up with some useful information and patterns. You wouldn't want to turn a fun passtime into an exercise in statistical analysis, but it might be interesting.

Bragging or chest pounding is part of fishing. If you find it annoying or inappropriate, might want to hang out somewhere other than here. What's also part of fishing is figuring out some of the where, when, how's. If everyone posted current and detailed reports of their success, it would turn every honey hole into a parking lot. A report is a report. Doesn't need to be within 48 hrs to be valuable or worth reading. My 2 cents
