Three plucked to safety. WCVI

What i really want know is what or how it happened..

very glad everyone made it out.

Seen that kingfisher "Aquaholic" on a trailer a couple doors down from my house on occasion. Looks like a real nice boat.

It was the searay. They were in Bamfield yesterday and gave them **** about the wake they put off. Alberta registration numbers if I remember. Don't wish that on anyone, but seemed like a case of money enough for boat - who cares about the rest... Glad they are ok.

Wow.. it's stories like this that make us grateful to have the brave men and women of the coastguard.. a job welldone...will be interesting to hear the cause of the sinking though, at least nobody was lost the fancy boat can be replaced..

Heard this quote from one of the coast guard guys on the rescue:

" Thanks to an amazing response by many the three gentleman are safe and have a hell of a story to tell around the camp fire:)
And some of the details, like as They are being pulled up to get them on board they are singing love boat...and the fish is still in the cooler on ice...priceless!
So happy they are all ok:)"

I'm pretty sure I saw that boat on the highway north bound through Nanaimo the other day. Like everyone else on here I look at every boat I see on the road. The name caught my eye as well as how nice a boat it was.

I heard this unfolding over my radio yesterday via May Day's and May Day relays. Tofino Coastguard radio which I could hear clearly off Sooke.

and in other news....

Silence from local MPs on the impending March 2014 closure of Tofino Marine Communications and Traffic Services Regional Office at Amphitrite Point in Ucluelet is weighing on Allan Hughes.
Hughes is a Marine Communications Officer with the Coast Guard out of Comox, as well as official regional director of Canadian Auto Workers 2182. He spent six years at Amphitrite Point.
"This is the last summer that mariners/boaters and the public on the west coast of Vancouver Island will have a Coast Guard MCTS centre. This time next year, the centre will be operated from Prince Rupert. What are the consequences, no more weather report from Amphitrite Point lightstation, even though the Senate told the government to stop lightstation de-staffing," Hughes said.

does this mean no more traffic warnings in the tofino area?

The boat was moored in the ukee boat basin for awhile, they were from alberta and it was about a 29 foot searay but more like a lake cruiser, but some people bring all sorts of "water crafts" for offshore fishing, at least they had a bit of size to them. When they launched the boat at island west, they asked if they were in the boat basin, duh..... they were also having problems with their bilge pump, don't know if they got it totally fixed... the day they went out sea condition were pushing 3 meters at the lap and even some of the local guide boats weren't heading offshore.... also heard they were heading out for tuna.....

They were all pretty lucky, with all this tuna fishing picking up, there will probably be others trying to venture out for them, not knowing how quickly and bad things can get out there, hopefully we wont be getting more reports of offshore mishaps....

Safe ventures to all.....

The news was reporting that there was a bilge pump problem to start with and then a cruise ship passed by and swamped them and the problem just got worse from there. The cruise ship had actually turned around to respond to the may day call.

Sorry I can't answer your question as I'm not up to speed with the problem.
Perhaps they will run it out of Rupert with mirrors and a special telescope.
Only problem with that is BC forest fires.....
But I suspect that come summer it will be smoke and mirrors for traffic control for Ukee.

My question would be how could a cruise ship wake finish them off when it was already very pour conditions conditions. Really? Pour conditions.....an understatement many guide boats we not out because of the pour conditions.

Roger that. Ive also never found cruise ship and freighter wakes that bad unless you're in really tight to them. Sounds like they weren't prepared.
