Hey Guy's!!

I'm taking a handicapped fellow out tomorrow from Vancouver. Thinking of shoot'n across too Thrasher Rock.

NEVER FISHED THE AREA.

Hoping to get some tips on how to work it, ie: Flood or ebb. Kelp or structure.....?????

Don't have a lot of time to play around, need to get him back too Van by 4:30 pm for a medical appointment. Should be on the water by 7:30 am, at the latest. High slack comes on around noon. ANY HELP APPRECIATED!!!.

Thanks.

Hey Brutus;

Thanks for your input. I'm just getting back home and indeed did fish the morning over there. REAL NEAT AREA!. Definitely want to hit it some more and get a better feel for it.

Was on it at 9:00am (finger at launch stacked up w/ no one around???). Worked the southern side tacking deep > shallow then deep again (scratch'n). Caught 2 Springs - 20/25 lb'rs and one nice Ling - released. Was running circles around in the boat trying to keep up until 10:00am. Then it all quit.

Marked fish in the 130 - 200 ft water but none biting.....Ours came in the 30 - 85ft stuff, about 10 - 15ft off of the bottom. Tide gets ripp'n through there NICE but no Coho to be found - to bad. No signs of pinks either.

Water was somewhat rolling and this individual didn't have very good sea legs. Ran him back over too the W Van shores for the pm change. fished upto 2:00pm - NOTHING. Saw one small Salmon hauled in. Species unsure.

Herring cut-plugs. Plaid and army truck 'ghosts'.

Brutus. In your opinion is this area a low slack water Chinook fishery or did I just catch the tail end of a morning bite?. I think it would be a fantastic flood water Coho arena....If any were around.

Once again Sir. THANKS.

Don't know, I've had the bit on morning ebb , morning high, mid tide middle of the day, evening bit.... can't find a pattern yet.

RM;

I made a couple of mistakes on the planning end of the mission. First one was that I thought the area would have been a tad bit more sheltered in the shadow of Gabriola - Because it wasn't, I should've taken one more person as a deck hand. I under estimated this person's co-ordination skills and therefore I was doing everything singe handedly. It was a somewhat tough situation that would have been solved with another set of experienced hands on board.

With that said........This guy had a BLAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For several years now, someone fairly close to him, has been 'promising' to take him out fishing - 'Next time'. I've known him for almost three years now and make a point of getting together w/ him every other week for a couple of hours. Each and every time he see's the boat, he gets all sad, telling me about all the times he was supposed to go with.................

He did get to feel the power of the fish. I'd set the hooks and hand it over too him for the runs. I'd work the throttles to keep up the slack and when the arbors were about half empty, I'd would take over again. The larger fish was one of them 'reel screamers'. The guy is still telling everyone ALL about it. I should have a couple of nice pics for him as a preasant, later on.

It was fun but we lost more than we caught.

Thanks for the interest.

Good on ya for taking that person out Mr. Dean.

Props.

Dave H;

Doing this for him was nothing. After all we are friends. I know he'll do something for me, sometime down the road.

The real person to applaud is Brutus. He's a new member on this forum and very likely pissed off some people for his above posting. I had a feeling he was a local boy, therefore understood what I was up against.

Thanks for the good words and btw. Props. What does this mean???

Brutus: What kind of boat running. Wouldn't mind running into ya for an eye to eye and a handshake.

Mr. Dean,

"Props" is just a modern shortened way of indicating PROPER RESPECT to someone or something.
Shorthand, so to speak.

Take care.
