The Strongest Storm in Northwest History Could Reach Our Coastal Waters On Sunday

Its really just beginning on SOG. Have a look at the pressure drops across on weather stations. Will pick up next few hours.
Just checked my barometer, and it is 28.3 inches which is the lowest I have seen it in Victoria since I got it about 8 years ago. Very happy we got the boat pulled out of its marina slip and on to the trailer last week.

I agree. The storm was typical, and a lot weaker than other storms we usually get. They didn't expect it too weaken so quickly but that's weather for you.

Definition of cyclone

(Entry 1 of 2)
1a: a storm or system of winds that rotates about a center of low atmospheric pressure, advances at a speed of 20 to 30 miles (about 30 to 50 kilometers) an hour, and often brings heavy rain.

I guess it could be classified as such, less the heavy rain.

Cyclones are defined by low air pressure, but the speed at which it falls is a good indicator of system intensity. ECCC reported yesterday their offshore stations were returning the most rapid pressure drops they've ever recorded in the Pacific.

Media quote:
"In order for it to be a meteorological bomb, it has to have a pressure drop of 24 millibars in 24 hours. This has dropped 50 millibars in 24 hours so it's like a double kind of a mega storm,” said Dave Phillips, a senior climatologist for Environment Canada.

Can hardly fault them for putting up the warnings they did. Data coming in indicated something beyond ordinary. There would have been a lot of finger pointing if nothing had been said.
