When I hear those stories by the oldtimers it makes me really sad and depressed. Look at Cowichan Bay now! Like a ghost town compared to what it used to be! I have heard and read many reports about the old time Coho fishery in the Bay - people used to troll really fast with bucktails - I mean really fast! Can you imagine a 20# Coho hitting at that speed with now flasher or downrigger as buffer? Man, I am sure those rods were tough or soon a broken stud... A buddy of mine told me he caught his first Coho as a kid when he just put the lure over the side of the boat to strip it out when a feisty Coho grabbed it right behind the boat... If I hooked 10 Cohos altogether last year during the pink run...
