And yes, that is what it’s all about for us is family. We view a boat as a family object. Our kids are all grown now and on there own but we seem to get together a lot in our boats fishing and just hanging out, especially my boys and I (we have 3 ). We live in camping and cottage country here but we don’t seem to do a lot of that, we don’t own a cottage and camping well I live in a park setting so why go camping lol. But the boat we get so much use out of as a family and now it’s the grandkids, my granddaughter 9 and grandson 7 are both fishing fanatics so we go out often. I dream of the day the wife and I will be out on the island for the summers and the grandkids can rotate through and we can spend time together. So for us we view this as a family investment and for us that’s everything.

nice. how much was the weight on it ready for towing ?
KF makes nice boats but put some eva foam on it. easier on the feet.

Im not exactly sure at this time what the weight will come in at. The spec sheets say 2495 but that is with the 0.19” hull bottom and mine has the 0.25” bottom so this will add some weight. I would think all in with engines and rigging it will be pushing 3700 lbs. I hope to run it over the scales on the way home and just see for sure.

Pulling my hair out,, was hoping to go pick up my boat today but got the call Wednesday there was no way they could have it ready for me. Will go get it Tuesday now. Talk about sitting on pins and needles pacing and pacing worst Christmas wait ever lol. Killing some time going through my equipment and cleaning and sorting before I put it in the new tub. Got my wire harnesses ready for my down riggers so it shouldn’t take to long once I get it home. My Helix 7 won’t be in until later next week had to order it so just going with an older sonar I have sitting around for now until the Helix comes in. Trying to kill time anyways but still nerve wracking.
 
beauty boat!! may be a captain obvious statement but mount those downriggers as far back as possible. drill the holes once. was on a trophy today with the riggers mounted at least four or five feet forward off the stern. what a gong show

True statement. I don’t particularly like mine all the way back, not mid boat either. I’ll see when it gets home and I put them in place, I’ll see how they sit in proportion to the engine props.

But I appreciate the feed back it’s good to see people care and don’t want a guy to make a mistake on something.

Really? just on the west coast? serious question to as i’ve never fished anywhere else but in mexico. i was on a buds new boat yesterday like i mentioned and i spent more time pulling cables out from under the pod, away from the kicker , untangling from kicker and swim bracket than we did fishing

It can depend on the boat too. This is sort of like asking a “what oil to use“ question on an internet forum. Opinions might be varied and not all will agree obviously. Personally, I prefer them to be forward. If you have ever been to a fishing lodge you’ll notice that the downrigger‘s are quite far forward. One of the reasons is when you were netting the fish, the person with the net is usually in one of the back corners and the downrigger is not in the way. The person with the rod is forward and the downrigger does not come in to play due to the rod tip being in the air . Another reason is the person driving the boat can keep his eyes on the downrigger’s and his fishing buddies or guests can watch the lines. Even when you are setting your gear, I find having the downrigger ahead of me with me standing towards the stern and hooking up the clip and letting the cannon ball down, it’s a preferred position to be in. I don’t think there’s a right and a wrong here, just preference. I just hate to see a guy with a brand new boat get told that they can only go in one position so I was giving him another option.
 
The right answer ;) is centered on your body when you're comfortably standing as far back as possible. Too far back and your legs are pinned against the back and you're leaning over the rigger trying to reach the clip. I don't ever think about tangles in the motors. Doesn't even cross my mind.
 
I made aluminum backing plates for under the gunnels where the bolts come through from the bases thought it reinforces things a bit kinda like one giant washer. Don’t know if it’s common practice.

Definitely going with a backing. When I was going over the boat with the guy that sets them up at the dealer I was looking under and tapping on the gunnels, he says you don’t have to worry about those gunnels we never put backing on our downriggers we just bolt them up. I told him, I will be !! Good example of why I do things myself. I have a good amount of my 1/2” HDPE board left over and I plan on running a full width strip of it under the gunnels it will be long enough to cover 2 flush mount Scotty holders, 1 in front and 1 behind the riggers and back the rigger bolts of course. Being built out of 1/2” HDPE it will be there for 1000 plus years and never rot. Will also be putting self locking nuts and 1” diameter washers, overkill yes but once in I’ll never have to think about them again. Also made my wire harnesses with 10 gauge wire using 30 amp fuse holders and fuses.

The theory behind middle of vessel is that your boat engines pivot behind the lines not in front of them, works for some people.
