Temp gauge not working

I have a 2003 Alumaweld Intruder with a 175 Mercury Sportjet. More at home on the Thompson than the ocean

My engine temperature gauge has never worked. Not sure where to start troubleshooting the problem.....any suggestions? All the other gauges like RPM, fuel, battery voltage, etc work.

Just wondering if this is something I can take a crack at, or if I should just bring it to Inlet Marine.

Should be the tan wire, try grounding it out at the gauge with the key on if the gauge pins the gauge is ok, you’ll just have to trace it back the sender should be in one of the heads

try cleaning the wire connection at the temp sender. could just be a little corrosion. may not hurt to check the connections at the gauge as well...
