catcher

On the end of your leader to you use a quick snap or swivel? If the flasher has a swivel at each end is another one needed on the end of the leader? Can there be too many swivels?

Hootchies will still work with a siezed up swivel.
Bait, not so much.
One working swivel is better than two that don't but the more the merrier epecially when there is shrapnel (salad) in the water to bind them up.:D

That's a question I have always wanted to ask catcher. With say Pro-Troll flashers which already have swivels on either end, how does everyone rig them? In order to not have to tie any knots while on board, do you just use say a #4 Sampo snap swivel at the end of your main line, then clip onto the top of the flasher, and then another one on the bottom of the flasher which is already pre-tied to the tail leader? I must admit tying 2 or 3 improved clinch knots for each rod on a rolling sea is a pain.

I use a quick change sampo on the main with a bead inbetween the line and swival so its guick and easy to change flashers , the bead you ask well it protects the tip of the rod because even when I tell people that that round bead wont go thru the tip many many people try. Nothing worse than the end of your rod with a nick in it and then all your line gets shaved.
As for my leader just a plain old bead chain for them quick and easy!!!!!! then I tie a variety with the special lenth i like to use;);)
More swivals the better as all it takes is a jelly fish slime or ell grass to make your line a complete mess.

I tie a beadchain swivel to my main line with a small bead on the line to protect the knot from being wound into the eye of the rod.

Then I attach a quick release to the beadchain.

To this setup, I will attach my flasher or lure on a leader. If fishing with a flasher, I will have another quick release on the bottom end of the flasher. To that, I clip on my bait leader that has a swivel on the top end.

This setup allows me to change tackle very quickly.

i just got rid of the hour glass shaped ones,,pain in the f*ing arse.. bought a few different kinds of the duolock clips.
way easier on the cold fingers to change up fast..

Nobody using ballbearing swivels on their leaders? :) I only use barrel swivels for leaders attached to the flasher for spoons, where rotation is not much of an issue give the action of a spoon. I guess lots of folks just tie the spoon leader directly to the flasher though.

Remember, it's called "fishing," not "catching."

Yup!

I rarely use anything but ball bearing swivels.[8D]

Wow, great image, Sushi.

Maybe I will try the beed trick, or is that something just for the rookies?

I do the same as sushi but I use these quick changes they are very very tough and are ball bearing swivals and for my sausge fingers easy for me to open to change flashers as for the flasher end exactlly as jims.

Heres a pic of the quick change I think they are called sampo coastlock but dont quote me on it they have them down at trotac for sure

Wolf, could you not just clip another Sampo snap swivel on the other end of the flasher and tie the tail leader to the ring? You would still have a swivel on each end of the Sampo.

What size Sampo snap swivel is that Roy in the photo? I want to order some.

YES, those snaps that Roy recommends are great,He put me on to them a couple of years ago(thanks for the care package Roy)When my hands are freezing cold they are so eazy to use. Thanks again Roy!!!Dan

Thanks.

You can do almost anything with PhotoShop and a bit of time.

As for the bead, it serves a couple of purposes.

- It helps to keep weeds from catching on the knot.
- It protects the knot from inexperienced fishermen.
- It helps me to see when the fish is getting close to the boat.

Dont quite understand what your asking???

In all the years I have used them I have never had on break or "open" up I use these for my halibut rods as well and have used them for about 10 or so years and many many days out probally over 1000 + days on the water so I would say a damn good product with a great track record.

Im not sure ot the size maybe a 4 or 5.

Buying in bulk is a money saver. Best quality quick connects are 'stainless steel' and more expensive. Use flashers with ball bearing swivels, regular swivels will fail and cause line twist. Even some ball bearing swivels say stainless, but the only part stainless is the bearing not the casing and will seize.
Here's an easy rig. Plastic bead, ss ball bearing swivel attached to ss quick connect to ball bearing flasher on front, quick connect tied to hoochie leader on to ball bearing swivel at back of flasher.
Still having probems, add a mid leader with swivel in front of flasher, remember to remove it when you switch to bait with long leader behind flasher, or have ladder ready.
