Swim baits for Mexico beach casting

I'm going to the Manzanillo area of Mexico (Pacific coast) next month, and I like to do some beach casting as well as a couple of offshore days. Last year I had some success with a soft plastic minnow-type swim bait, and I'd like to get a couple more. The problem is, I bought this lure down there a few years back and now the store is closed. None of the stores around home carry anything like it, and there's a dizzying array online. I'm wondering if anyone could help me track down a supplier. The lure is 6" long and I'd estimate it has 1 - 1.25 oz weight on the head. Sorry about the upside down image; there's a series of narrow black stripes on the back that nicely emulate a bait fish that is plentiful locally.

check out storm wildeye swimshads, pretty sure army and navy, PNT, possibly even searun carry them or lures similar. ling killers

Thanks, the shape looks about right but not colour pattern match. Still worth trying. I'll try those vendors you mentioned.

Thanks guys. It took some doing, but I bought some 4" and 6" Berkeley swim shads. The large sizes are hard to come by, I ended up having to go directly to the manufacturer website.

Thanks Tightlines, I believe the package says 6" whereas their online store says no availability on 6". Must be a runout item, when stock is gone, its gone. Was this the Abbotsford Basspro or Nanaimo?

Thinking about getting a proper beach casting rod for more distance and therefore more time in the strike zone beyond the break. Anyone care to recommend something? I'd consider purchasing online and shipping directly to the hotel so I don't have to deal with the airline's oversize baggage system.

I've never seen a proper surf casting rod for sale anywhere in Canada people just don't use those kinds of blanks here.

Yes I'm finding that out from online research. We have the longest coastline of any country in the world, yet hardly anyone fishes off a surf beach. But according to my online searches, surf fishing must be massively popular in the UK!

Hi Sly! I yearly go to Mex and do a lot of surf fishin. I use a 10' St.Croix travel rod. Breaks down in 4 pieces and has a nice round travel case. Heavy duty system as can use on beach and sailfish from boat. Picked up from special order at Harbour Chandler. About a $400 package. Easily flips the 3oz lure 100 meters. With a little practice 150+ is doable...

If you see me along the Mex beach, this is what I will be carrying.. well maybe a cold beer too!!

Nice looking setup! With the help of some forum members, I believe I've sorted my rod and swim baits needs.

I thought I'd ship the new rod to my hotel so as to avoid the hassle of putting it through the airline overlength baggage system. Quotes I've received so far (UPS, Fedex) are all in excess of $300! I guess an extra $25 to Westjet is not a bad deal after all. Unless anyone else know a less expensive shipping method? I have 4 weeks to get it there.

I take the rod/case etc and all my fishin stuff in an old hockey bag. Put everything in there that I may need for my trip. Pay the $25, each way and be done with it. Actually if you have a plane overnight lay over, you have to take your bag with you and pay again as the airline won't usually keep bags overnight..

The hockey bag is tough and lockable and flexible. The rod case is about 32"long..

I've flown to belize and cuba with a travel rod in a case. I just carried it on as my 'purse' and was never charged. It weighs next to nothing and doesn't really take up space in the overhead. I had a regular sized backpack with snacks, magazine, tablet etc, and the travel rod as carry on. Nobody seemed to care. I have a Cabelas "Salt Striker" travel rod, and a Fenwick 4 piece travel rod.
