Suzuki or Yami 9.9?

I've run 9.9 Yamaha's all my life and never had a problem ,but my present boat came with new Suzuki's 200 and 9.9.The 200 is so quiet that I've forgotten to turn it off several times while trolling for hours. The 9.9 EFI tilt remote starts flawlessly and runs great, but I can't say it's quieter than the Yamaha.I don't know why Yamaha hasn't gone to EFI on their 9.9 yet,it sure is nice.

My main is a 90 hp Yamaha, so if I go Yamaha the colours will match haha. But the Merc/Tohatsu/Suzuki with the EFI seems like the way to go. The Yamaha dealer's pitch against the EFI is that the Yamaha 9.9HT is super reliable/smooth, the HT gearcase is excellent and has been around forever.

My 06 Yamaha T8 had over 5000 hours on it. Sold still running for $1,200.00.
Replaced it will a 9.9 high thrust Xlong E start when I swapped out the mains last year. 7 year warranty on all.

Touche. I run ethanol free fuel but I guess that only goes so far.
Don’t get me wrong, I do think Yamaha makes a really good motor, it’s just when I had mine I did have that carb apart quite a few times.
Just a heads up, I’m not sure we’re you’re getting ethanol free fuel from but it’s not available from any regular gas station in BC. That’s been rehashed on here and the consensus is that it is no longer available.

Nanaimo Co-Op on Bowen Road has 91 ethanol free. It's marked so you just have to fill out the form for boat use only.

No ethanol free fuel in BC. I’m friends with the buyer at Coop. Maybe they haven’t marked the pump?

Saw the same, labelled as ethanol free.
I've spoken with several of the local stations around Mid Island (Co-op, Chevron, Castle). Most of the time with Co-op they just haven't changed the stickers on the pump.

Even if a station tells you that they have Ethanol free fuel, they can no longer guarantee due to transport contamination. No supplier is trucking only ethanol free fuel and none are flushing tanks between deliveries. Maybe some of the specialty suppliers can get E0, but it's not something I'd trust coming from a pump.

Only way to be sure is to buy a kit and test it yourself.

My understand is that engines with carbs are prone to gumming up with ethanol fuel so adding fuel stabilizer is a must with engines with carbs now that we can't get ethanol free fuel at the pumps. :(

Back to the kickers, I have been pricing some options out. The below kickers all include electric start, power tilt and 20" leg. I am not sure if the Suzuki would be considered "High Thrust". Hard to find exact weights on the 20" leg, but looks like they are all in the same ball park +- 5-10 lbs. Tohatsu makes the Merc kicker and was around the same price as the Merc with a much smaller dealer network, so better to get the Merc. All in all on paper it seems like the Suzuki takes the cake with EFI, 12A alternator, 5-year warranty and the lowest price but with a few extra pounds.

Yamaha 9.9HT - T9.9LPB (Carburetor)
