Hi MyEscape:
Thanks for your kind words. I heard you talking to Tofino Coastguard and offering your assistance. Much appreciated!
On days like this, you really find out who your friends are - and who are not.
A special thanks to Joe on Whiplash who came and stood by and then towed us into Jewitt Cove to tie up and await a tow back to Tahsis from my good friend Greg Morton on Alure. And also to Graham Nielsen of Nielsen's Lodge in Tahsis.
I like your attitude about helping people on the water. I have towed in a couple of boats over the years and never charged for it. When I had my 4X4 Chev Half-ton PU, I regularly winched other trucks out of mud holes and other spots they had gotten themselves into. I suppose I could have been mercanery and sold my services to a guy who was stuck, like you, I always felt if I could help out, maybe some day when I needed help someone might help me and save me a bundle of money on a tow job.
It was a long, tough day, but everything turned out well. No one was hurt, the boat didn't sink, I was helped by some good people, and we got back to Tahsis safely.
Long story, short. I hit a log at the entrance (end?) of Tahsis Inlet, just before making the turn into Nootka Sound toward Hoiss Point. Lost the Volvo Duo-prop leg completely, and got a small leak in the boat. My friend, Greg Morton came out from Tahsis and towed me home.
Clients were very good, and somehow seemed to enjoy the experience as much as the previous two days fishing.
