Sunshine Coast (Gibsons to Egmont) beachcombers?

Shot in the dark here, but is anyone still beachcombing logs on the SC? There used to be a fellow in a little blue boat with a big ol' engine that would comb, we'd see him pass by Middlepoint every so often. Haven't seen him in a couple years though.

If anyone knows anyone combing, I have a visual on a big, fresh red cedar log (still some bark on her. Looks like a petty fresh break from a boom. If I had an Alaska mill, I would session it - probably a 2-3000 log at today's lumber prices. Happy to send coordinates to anyone interested.

Talk to Steve Willgoose, he would be all over it. Oops...Anyway keep him in mind. We have one of his tables in western red cedar that came off the beach in halfmoon bay thats awesome.

So just a quick question for the people in the know about this stuff. What permit or licence does it take to salvage logs from the beach. Can anyone don’t or do you have to be permitted.

In the Vancouver Log Salvage District, you’re required to have a permit (the “LS” number you see on beachcomber boats) to salvage logs. The Log Salvage Regulation under the Forest Act addresses permitting. I don’t know if there are similar requirements outside the Vancouver Log Salvage District, though.

When i had a salvage boat we required an LS # and permit. I sold that boat to a guy in Gibsons not sure if the LS # was required thrre or not, not to mention thst was 30+ years ago
