Selling our interests to the south on our prairie farms
Selling our interests to Norwiegens on fish farms..

I know most think that this is not in OUR back yard.. but in a way it is.....

If we don't support eachother ...who will?
I supported them.

It's the same thing really....gov't selling out to corporations...we both need all the support we can get...we have to support each other, the people are divided by so many things. Divide and Conquer, the bastards are counting on it.

"Agriculture Minister breached Wheat Board Act, judge rules

WINNIPEG — A federal court judge has dealt a blow to the federal government's plan to end the Canadian Wheat Board's monopoly over the sale of wheat grown in Western Canada.

In a ruling today, Federal Court Judge Douglas Campbell said the government violated the Canadian Wheat Board Act by not holding a vote among farmers before introducing legislation eliminating the Wheat Board's monopoly position.

Judge Campbell admonished the government for not consulting with farmers and “simply pushing ahead” with plans to essentially abolish the board. “Had a meaningful consultative process been engaged to find a solution which meets the concerns of the majority, the present legal action might not have been necessary,” the judge ruled. He added that the government had to be “held accountable for [its] disregard for the rule of law.”

“We call on [Agriculture Minister Gerry] Ritz to comply with the spirit of this ruling and immediately cease actions that would strip away Prairie farmers’ single-desk marketing system without first allowing a vote by affected producers,” Wheat Board chairman Allen Oberg said in a statement.

Minister of Human Resources and Social Development Diane Finley announced government will appeal the ruling.

“We believe in marketing freedom for farmers,” she told the House of Commons

Unreal. Whether you believe that the Wheat Board should be there or not, the bastards broke the law. Shouldn't someone be charged when they disregard the law?

I look at fish farms at a very fundamental level sometimes and even when you leave out the lice, chemicals, disease, et cetera should they be there? Are we allowed to take a non-indigenous species and "plant" it anywhere we want? No, it's against the law. Yes they're supposed to be contained but it's not effective, they've escaped more than we know. I guess you can't leave out the diseases that Atlantic salmon have though, that's part of the reason you don't introduce non-indigenous species. Just thought I'd throw that out there. IMHO it's a good enough reason not to farm Atlantic Salmon in the Pacific even without the disease aspect. Jeeze can I fragment my thoughts a little more LOL

You may very well be right Weff. There may be a potential court case that could be won and force DFO to protect and proactively manage our fisheries resource. IMO and with the little knowledge I have it seems that DFO is clearly not fufilling their legislated mandate in many of the decisions they make, especially those around harvesting rates and promoting net pen salmon farms. But until organized citizens who set aside the time, energy and $ to take the DFO to court, this will not happen.

For those who are not happy with the DFO's mis-management the only other real alternative to to mount a public relations campaign and force the politicians to make some positive changes. Either way we need to organize ourselves and focus our efforts to make some positive changes before too much is lost. My 2 bits.
