When my traps were all stolen a few years back I received phone calls over the following week from people who found my scotsman floating with a bit of cut rope below. Thieves do not keep your named float. Just the good stuff below. I wonder at times if they just cut your floats off, add a new one and start fishing. Nothing to explain when they get to shore with your gear and their floats.
Thieves would make good crab bait.
