Squid Jigging Campbell River/ Courtenay

Pescador
What do they look like from the pier? Is the water surface different or what? I have a few of those jigs and am also very interested to try it out. I thought that in the Seattle area, it's mostly something done in the winter and spring evenings.

They're generally in schools, but, can be in small groups. Hard to explain how they look from a pier other than you can certainly distinguish what they are if you have knowledge from previous experience. I have seen them in the Spring at Brentwood, but, I understand that in some parts of the world December/January are key months.

we would get them on quadra within a couple weeks either side of july 1

Winter Harbour, July 1992 was a big year for mating opalescent squid, I guess you'd call it a bumper crop. I used to jig squid from the float at the Co-op fish plant with the guys who worked there. You dare not wear your best clothes to this outing! :) We had a laugh and a half along with a few beers and a squid feed afterwards. I used to quick fry with onions and garlic, go HOT with peanut oil and get them off the heat after 2 minutes, any longer and they turn into little chewy things. Then may as well add a can of tomato sauce and garlic and leave for 3 hours for a marinara.
One night some kids jigged up a big skate and put it in the fish plant icehouse. There are lots of other animals eating these things besides us.
