"One of the ways sperm whales remove fish from demersal longline fishing gear in the Gulf of Alaska was captured from an underwater videocamera attached to the longline pointed upwards. The footage shows a sperm whale grabbing the longline in an attempt to remove sablefish as the whale moves up the line towards the closest fish. Meanwhile tension on the line caused another fish to pop off the hook and the whale releases the line and heads towards the unhooked fish. Please note that the whale looks to be spinning on the line, however this was created by the camera spinning on the line instead."
