Spark Plug Wires

I'm replacing my spark plug wires and it appears that new ones are 8mm and the old ones are 7mm, which doesn't seem like a big deal but I don't think the bigger wires will fit in the keeper clips on the motor. Has anyone dealt with this? It's an 86 motor (AQ231a) and I'm thinking smaller wires were used back then?

I guess I could make my own, which I've done before, out of 7mm wire.

It seems weird, but the old wires sure look smaller! Maybe I'm just going blind.

I guess I can try to ream out the steel clips if need to. It shouldn't be hard to expand 1 mm.
