Sooke Report -- 2008 season

Starting new thread for Sooke area reports for 2008.

I am taking out my new-to-me boat for her maiden voyage Thursday. Reports I'm hearing of late are still winter spring based, deep water fish up to 8 lbs (in the slot limit).

Anyone have reports of larger fish caught near Sooke (catch and release) or beyond Sheringham (keepers)?

I'll post my first report of the season shortly.

Skunked today...trolled Sooke harbourfront to Otter Point and back. No bites. Two other boats out, one chasing halis, other salmon, no fish for them either.

New boat handled nicely though, so good times ahead hopefully.

Heard of a 22# Spring west of Sheringham of course. Lots of Springs to the east but most are to big and have to go back.

So lets say you troll Otter to Sheringham and past. You hook a 22 lber just as you pass Sheringham (right on the line )

Been out last 2 sundays. Picked up 1 fish each day. Smallish chinooks
out of whirl bay. 3 nice red rock crabs too. I'm in the 17' Arima Sea Chaser.

If you go through the trouble of putting the area and subarea on your license, and you are not caught someplace 60 miles from there, I'd say it's yours.

Recent report: too much work + not enough time = no fishing!

I'm reporting that I finally got my boat back in at the marina (cheanuh)but it was too late on Sunday to go out.Some report, huh. Felt good just to be doing a little boat cleanup next to the dock! Maybe go for halis next weekend, providing tides are half decent.

Word I'm hearing is dead slow for salmon out of Sooke right now.

I heard earlier in the week some action in Pedder, chasing the herring into the Gorge

Get out the hali gear!?

i was out twice last week, both from pedder. nailed a 12lb hatch, couple of shakers but that was it,
for hali i didnt even have a bite.....

Spent a few hours out front today, trying for a halibut. Couple of doggies, no 'buts.

Bit of a shakedown cruise, anchored in the wind without sinking my boat, that's a win for me.

The Trap at low slack has some biggies starting to show.
