Hoping to get out to Sooke next week. How are the launches,Particularly Jock's?I'll either be in a 19ft deep-v or a 24ft Whaler.
Hate running the basin but I guess it's better than Cheanuh.
Any reports on the launches greatly appreciated

Been to Jocks a few times to have a look see, Short ramp, on a low tide no ramp, drops off to mud, Watch the tides for in and out. I haven't used it for this reason, I use Sunny Shores, nice long ramp, is a little bit of a run out and watch the depth going out. Stay to your port side, Billings Spit comes out a long way.

Better off goin to Sunny Shores decent ramp at any tide. The run in the basin isn't bad and the boat could fair better because of it.[8D]

I am also thinking about a trip to Jordan river area probably this Sunday. I will be travelling with another boat as well. I don't mind running from out of Cheanuh and give the new to me boat and motor a good run but most think it is too far to run and would rather leave from Jocks Dock. I checked the tides for Sunday at Sooke and high tide is at 3:18 am and low tide is at 11:19 am. We will probably be launching around 7:00 am which is approx 1/2 way to low tide, Do you think the ramp will be ok to launch from at that time or should I be thinking of launching earlier then 7:00 am? I might try and drive out there Saturday morning just to check out the place cause I've never launched from there and don't want to find out any surprises when I have my boat with me. My boat is only 17 feet and is an Arima which will launch in fairly sallow spots or at least thats what I was told. Steve.

And remember....Keep your tip up!!!

I launch a 15 footer at any tide at Jock's. You will be fine. May just have to paddle out to the dock a ways before dropping the motor.

Thanks juandesooka, I did notice that it was going to be a bit windy on Saturday and I'm hoping it will be a lot nicer on Sunday.
And if I had a 25 foot Grady White I'd be sleeping on it anchored out somewhere ....lol.

last time I was out at Cheanuh, you had to step on an old chair to get across the dock. That and the extra run time.
Hope they replaced the chair

Looked it over on the charts and you are probably right PS.Will keep that in mind next time.
Less time in the truck = more time on the water.
Thanks all
