Sooke 2014 Fishing Reports

I dont fish with flashers and find I can normally land the fish equally as fast with my 9wt as I can a mooching rod. I am using an Islander MR3 drag is the same. Not much difference other then the flyrod doesent bother my Dads hernia. Its a great way for him fish pain free.

Just leave it you don't have to explain... Remember how last year went. :)

Nice work!

Maybe we can chase some springs together during July and August when I am in the Sooke / Victoria area.

5 springs on 4 landed threw back 15,16,18 wilds and kept a 19 hatchery. All fish 51 and 61 on rigger on spoons with fly rods.

Pic of my 9wt and Islander in a sunrise.

And here is a pic of the 19.

Karma-Kazi

Love the use of the fly rods and the islanders...good on you. Which spoons are doing it for you right now down there?

Thanks! Its alot of fun and ive noticed without a flasher that most of my bigger fish like to get airborn!

Been having some great luck with the new G-Force in Kitchen sink and also patty wagon. I am really impressed with the durability and action of the new G-force spoons. They catch fish!

What size of spoon has been working for u?3.5

KK give us all your secrets! Lol...

Come on guys really? Spend some time out their you'll find what works for you, what sizes, what depths etc. KK does a great service just posting a report with some pictures he shouldn't have to play 20 questions. get out there and fish with your most confident lure - you'll get em once you pay your dues! Fishing aint supposed to be easy

Not sure that I got my info right but isn't not a good idea to use fly rods when the majority of the fish have to be released. No offense KK, just something I have heard.

A tired fish is a tired fish doesn't matter how you tired it out. When it's ready for the boat doesn't matter if it takes an extra 5 mins to get it there it's still at the same point of exhaustion. You will do more damage with a heavy line and fence post rod by horsing it in and damaging their mouths and ripping tendons in the mouths than by working it it slowly. Of course this is just my opinion.

Sorry back on topic.

Good fish KK.

Fished Trailer Park and Otter area yesterday from 7-10 on the Ebb. 5 Fish to the Boat, released three un-clipped and kept two clipped. Bait from 70- 90 on the Rigger. Good Day Driller... both cleaned fish had 6-7 inch Herring in em.

The thing is you all want any of us like myself or any that fish regular next to Steve to blab everything. There are lots of fish out there so try and find your own thing..Just have to stop with the bashing it gets old. So many of us don't say much on here anymore...Because of the comments you should have used it this way...You shouldn't use a fly rod..You shouldn't have have tailed it... Just remember guys like Steve don't have to say a word... I think he was pretty fair to tell what he used I personally wouldn't have...

Thanks for the tips KK. I for one appreciate it being someone that fishes sooke but not as often as the regulars. I also post my results and which lures are working for me when I get out there.

There are a LOT of really good lures out there and it's helpful to hear what's working at different times and different locations.

I was out Wednesday early morning off Otter Point - only hits were on Coyote Spoons "cop car" - same coloring as the G-Force Paddy wagon that Steve mentioned. One lost and a 27" hatchery in the boat.

Keep catching them.....nice to see fish on the outside for you guys. It has been great inside so far this year for us but I want to get down your way and take out the father-in-law for a day trip. At 86 he still asks to go and the beauty of this site is that one doesn't need to go down there totally "blind" thanks to guys like you sharing your success.

Well, not the best effort today! Got lines down at Aldridge at 7am, clipped 8 pounder at the boat 2 mins later, released it thinking hey it's gonna be a good day, don't want to go home to soon. Turned to find all my nice salted bait went in the drink (left it sitting on the transom). Oh well, back to the marina for more. Hour later got a nice 20 lb wild next to the boat...then it took off with my flasher (sorry fish!). Bring up the lead, stopper bead got moved, goodbye 15 lb ball. Three more nice fish on between 11:00-1:00, all long line released....some days you just can't win.

All fish with chovi in bloody nose and green glow, 78-103ft.

Oh yea, my smokey rolled off the BBQ into the drink as well....:(

Geez Gambler, don't go to the casino tonight. Glad to hear you had some fish on at least.

Anchored up west of Jordan river over the current switch for halibut. Nada.

1st trip out to the Head this year for us from 4pm to 8pm - produced 5 strikes... 2 landed hatches for the bar b q all on lures and > 100 ft down in 200 ft of water.

Got a little rolly but overall great shift, nice to be back on the water.

Went out today from 7-1, two on board. Between Aldridge and secretary. Chovy and coho killer produced

Fished trap shack thru to Trailer Park from 930am to 1pm, must have passed a hundred boats all radio's very quiet. Never marked much in the way of bait or fish until we got near the bluffs at 140 ft picked up two in short order on chovies at 80 to 90 ft. The bigger one puked up a small banana and both fish were full on chovies. Lost one other pin popper before calling it a day. Picked up 7 nice full crab to finish the day. Just wondering where all the fishing reports are, with all the boats out there today someone must have something to report. Great day on the water, flat and calm thru most of the day. By the way we never saw any seals once we passed
Secretary Island.

I was a the Trap from 11-3. No action for me. Didn't see much in the way of bait off the Trap. Sounds like I need to go deeper. I was fishing 70-100 ft

ive noticed the reports haven't been coming in that much too on all the areas. would it be because of the derby?
