Just got back and had a great day. Lots of boats out. Got 2 nice chinook. Nothing big but I'm sure that they will taste just fine. Also caught 2 lings bouncing bottom. Kind of stange as there wasn't much structure around at all. They were about 2-3 lbs I guess. There was a seal hanging around but hopefully they made it back to the bottom. Other than that it was a great day.
I don't think smaller Lings hang around obvious big structure that attracts the big guys. As a small guy you probably want to stay away from the big guys until you are a bigger guy yourself.
Went out to Cheanah today, 10:45 till 3:15. Saw a few other boats out but didn't see any fish caught by anyone. One guy reported finally getting one and then losing it to a seal. It was a great day on the water, nice and flat, just didn’t see any fish big or small on the hooks or on the sounder. Anyone else give it a go today anywhere?
I have been fishing right out front of Sooke with some good success...5-6 keepers in a few hours and a couple have topped 15 lbs. Straight out from the range markers in the 130' area. Hootchies or small bait seem to be working the best right now.
I was out for halibut yesterday to start the season. We did some jigging so my friend Bill could try out his new jigging rod/reel combo. The first two fish of the day were on the jigs - ~50 lb. then a 20 by my other fishing partner. I got a 35 to end the day. I will attach a picture of Bill's fish hopefully (47.5 inches long).
Hey RH, nice work ... a good break-in for Bill´s new combo
btw I think Josh could use a fresh chunk of hali..
I´m sure he has already emptied my freezer
Fished from 7:30 to 12:00 from Beecher to Whirl and back. Had only one hit but got in in. About an 8 lb hatchery right off of the Bedfords in about 250 feet of water 130 on the rigger. Nice day
Out today for 4 hours on a salmon trip. Left the dock at 8am and by 9am the guests had our 4 fish limit and I took a smaller one for dinner as well. We then left the hot spot for a bit of scouting down west. Didn't hit a single salmon in 7 miles of water on a direct line tack. Did manage a 15 pound hali just past O.P. A great day...dam cold the first hour and a bit.
