Hello fellow anglers. I am from Manitoba and will be flying to Victoria to visit some friends next week (feb 7th). i was just curious as to if there were any fishing opportunities close to the area, without getting ridiculous as to price, or adventure factor. we are frozen solid here, and thought it would be neat to experience something different. Any info would be great!

Fishing right off Victoria is some of the best winter fishing around Southern VI, if not the best. Expect to pay $500 for a 5 hour charter. Not sure what its been like lately but it can be great this time of year.

Do you know how to run a boat? If so Pedder Bay Marina rents boats and gear for a very fair price. http://www.pedderbay.com/boat-rentals-and-guides/ Youd be fishing for winter springs down near the bottom which is pretty hard with out a sounder which im not sure comes with the boat. Or just rent a boat and boot around if its a nice day. Still cold out there tho.

I'm originally from Manitoba and no it's not. What people call cold here on Vancouver Island qualifies as a beautiful spring or fall day in Manitoba. That's why I'm staying here and not going back...

pretty sure your rental just includes the boat, motor, and gas. sounder =$10 manual riggers $10 ea. rods and tackle are available, not sure the cost. Boat rental is less than $25/hr not including fuel.
unless things have changed from the rental we took out last year, that was about the cost.

Pedder is a good suggestion. But the few times I rented there I took my own riggers, as there is never much line on theirs, and it's in bad shape. Since you need to go so deep for winter springs around Vic, Pedder gear may lead to some frustration.
As for Manitoba, the little bit of time I spent fishing out there has left a lasting impression. I can't wait to go back. In the warmer months.
