Soldering Split Rings....??

On occasion I need to solder a split ring....

Questions:-

(1) What type of solder should I use? Is "circuit-board" solder good enough?

(2) What kind of flux?

(3) Do they make a solder-gun that does tiny work?

(4) Is it do-able and does it work?

(5) Anybody here done it with success?

I've not done it but most of the ones I have seen look more like they were brased with silver solder - e.g. a torch as opposed to soldering iron (flux choice is driven by solder choice but there are a lot of commercial silver solder fluxes available).

Have had good success tig welding them using tig wire to make the rings but that probably doesn't help..

Any silver solder flux and lead free solder should work tho. Make sure you get your ring super clean with Hugh grit sandpaper.

Or bring them by our shop in Vancouver and we can do them for ya... Will work for beer

We actually do a fair amount of that on the Big Boat.

Silver solder, with a torch. Flux comes with the overly pricey solder. They HOLD!

These are of course the standard welded rings. Never tried any of the sporty type split rings as I suspect the solder simply wouldn't take...

Was googling on another site and they said that if you solder a sporty coiled-type split ring, it will take the temper out of them......

One poster said he used JB-Weld on the coil-type split rings and that worked.........
