If that was the case, it could easily be fixed, but flossers are not the cause of the decline of Sockeye making it back to the river to spawn. Sure, they are an easy target, but.......if you read the article, it's a number of factors and hard to single out just one.

In decline?........since when?......The Copper River up in Alaska is having the best Sockeye season in 34 years.
With some fish reaching 15 to 20 lbs.

Of course, I guess they would do a lot better if the pesky local Alaskans weren't allowed to stand in the river with a dip-net and just scoop them up.

The DFO has the ability to shut down fishing at Papermill Dam in Port Alberni any time they want.

At least for the fish that made it past the FN nets,Gillnetters, and Seiners, commies and sporties beforehand.

Factors that affect returns are:- water temp, parasites, viruses,toxins, food availability and conditions in northern water where Sox roam. Whatever happens up north in terms of water temp,food, storms,nutrient upwellings etc.etc.etc etc......all affects how many are coming back to spawn in B.C.

Makes you wonder what is different up there. Lets see, could it possibly be that one factor is that Alaska has not allowed the Fish Pen Farm Industry to get a foothold in their Pacific waters.

You can't just cancel a FN opening for food or ceremonial, or in some cases, economic opportunity, unless a hundred scientists agree to testify in the Supreme Court and say the words, 'in my opinion, the salmon are threatened or endangered.'

Just saw on KING news that a huge, possible record, run is returning down there as well. It seems Alaska and Washington are doing OK. Maybe it's a passport problem?

pretty sure it's a pass the farm problem coupled with a government that is stripping the guts out of dfo. no way can our streams handle the pressure put on them today without enhancement.

the fn do as they please and don't give a **** about anyone else,,government or us tax payers,,,every year the same thing,,,selling salmon on the side of the highways and not using it for their own use,,and when they don't sell them all they just dump the remainder that they don't sell in the ditch on the side of the road,,so what's that all about,????

You are painting all FN with the same brush stroke, generalizing, that's not appropriate. There are plenty of us white folks who don't as you say 'do not give a **** about anyone else.' You need to get your facts straight, many bands have the legal right to sell at road side stands.

As for dumping fish, I'm with you all the way, let's et em and hold them accountable!
