Looking at new rigger rods. Looked at some past threads recommending the Technium so that is what I'm going for. What do you guys prefer the med/heavy or the heavy? I have a coupele HMX 1265's which I like for coho season so I'm thinking maybe the heavier set up. Thoughts?

I have the med heavy and love them for springs. tried the heavy and it felt like a broom stick go for the med if you like to "feel" the fish great backbone to it as well you will be happy with either.

Really like the Med-Tech has everything I require in a rod but as Unkown pointed out it falls just a little short in fishing deep rods. Just have to reel down a little more to pop off or fish Power Pro on your reels.:)

Not to sidetrack this thread. I am a bit concerened with what I am reading about the HMXM 1265; I just bought one a couple of weeks back and hoping it's not going to be undergunned for the WCVI. I have the previous mentioned rods and grabbed the HMX at Berry's sale. We tend to fish pretty deep up in Kyuquot and I am hopin' I am not gonna run into troubles up there as there isn't much in the way of "shopping" to do. I do have a technium and a convergance but am now thinking I should maybe swap over my new reel onto one of those and let the HMX sit as a "backup" rod unless fishing shallower depths?

Well as Rob mentioned when your down that deep whatever rod you are using the amout of stretch mono creates any rod will have a tough time unclipping unless its a hali rod with tough line LOL LOL

I use the med for winters off of vic to depths of 150 plus and have no problem popping them off the riggers but I like the feel of the fish more so like the lighter of the rods just dont set it as tight LOL LOL

And have reeled in halibut that was 35 lbs with no problem at all its weird how much different they come up with a salmon rod and gear compared to a halibut set up.

All fish will come up sooner or later caught a 68 lb hali one time with my 11.4ft loomis and longstone reel hooked in the guts an hour later in the boat just got to take some time.

Good luck Wolf

Thanks Wolf.....I knew that the HMX was a bit more "noodly" than my Shimanos but was all of a sudden a bit concerned with it at the 150-200' depth. Mind you I don't normally pop things off on my own....I usually (always?) bring the lines up on the rigger so as long as the fish pops it off.....which it still should ;) I won't be too concerned.

Yes....I completely agree with you hali's on the salmon gear; I prefer catchin' them on the troll than jigging for them. I dragged up a 65ish hali last spring on my Convergance set up and "yes" it did take a while but we got er' in!

Thanks for all the comments. Picked up those 1265's last fall so never got them into any big springs. Was just wondering how they would hold up and if the heavier Technium might be better way to go. I like to feel the fish more also, but was concerned those lighter hmx might not hold up as well on bigger fish around the boat. Had one fresh northern take a dive right across and under the boat and I thought she was gonna pop but never did. Appreciate the comments.

Pippen i use the 1263's which are even lighter action and fish both salmon and haly with them all summer no probs at all.

Just rig it and fish it Pippen[8D]. Can't wait to see your report from Kyuquot:D. Love your reports from there. I have to make it up there some day.

Hell I have a couple of Klee Wick's I'm dusting off for the long weekend.

Those Technium's sure look nice and I will probably replace my Convergence's with them some day.
