The girlfriend (for fish) and boat (for chinooks) that is!!!!:D[:p]

A couple of weeks ago we finally got a good day to head out and chase some hali's. Had the GF and a friend with me whom both had never caught a hali before. The end of an hours fishing saw them both with their first hali's.

His is approx 20 and hers is 12 lbs

Then to day we went out and decided to chase springs. I had heard a few were being caught and seeing what David was catching in Hardy, I felt there should be some around. We fished a couple of old stand-buys, green Anchovie special and red hotspot and a white hootchie and green hotspot.

Here is the first spring for the new boat and her first spring ever, a beauty 18 lbs white spring. It pounded of the downrigger and took off like a train. Was a strong fish. Interesting to note was it had been caught before, but broke off the (barbed) hook as it and 18" of line were still attached to the fish.

Next was a small hali of 10 lbs, cuaght while trolling the white hootchie. She let me catch that one[:0].

Last was another hit on the white hootchie, she took the rod from my hand and landed her biggest fish and second hali, a nice chicken of 25 lbs.

All in all it was great day, three fish in three hours. She is hooked, all hook line and sinker.:D

Hmmm! 10 lb Hali. After slabbing it, you would get about what? 1, 2 lbs? Doesn't seem worth it to me.

Actually if your good of a 10 pound hali you would get 6 lbs of meat [}:)]

Agreed, those chickens are the best eatin.

Sitka- without giving away where you were fishing any hints?

We are fishing out of Port McNeill, on the back side of Malcom Island. Will be back out there again today, as soon as we recover from the The Cancer Societies, RELAY FOR LIFE walk last night and this morning[|)][|)].

Nice catch Sitka [8D]
And that looks like a nice ride. How high are the sides on your boat. Floorboard to top gunnel is that about 36in. ?

cheers

It is 34.5", which is plenty and makes it a very seaworthy boat. It is one of the reasons we went with it. Lots of freeboard and very stable, with the 94" beam. Over all I am satisfied with it, although two foot itis is setting in:D
