So twice in the last week large sharks have been observed by myself and other fishing buddies cruising the surface.

Small dorsal fin showing, large bodied.

No warm water yet- anyone have any idea what gives?

Gimee the gaff!!!

are they blue sharks Jeff?

Fill the dam tub!

They've been around offshore for a spell now Rabbi.
We had several fish that came up with simply the heads still on the gear when trolling out on the Big Bank this spring. Obvious from the bite marks that sharks (real sharks that is, with triangular teeth as apposed to sturgeon sucker mouths) were the culprits. One was rather interesting - took what would have been a spring into the 30+ lb class and sheared it off right behind the gills. From the circle it scribed doing so, that one must have had a very impressive set of jaws!

Dunno the why's but they ARE there...

Cheers,
Nog

I Used to catch a fair number of Blue Sharks while Commercial Trolling the West Coast on certain years, depending on the currents I'm guessing.

My guess would be blues-I've lost a fair number of fish to them 6-8 miles off WH and you would be shocked at the numbers I have spotted when I was flying for Search and Rescue off this coast. May be a little early but I keep forgetting it's mid-june already cause the weather has been so bad.
