Nice, never heard of anyone trolling a royal wulf dry fly, but if its works why not. That fly rod in the 7th picture, is that a redington vapen?

ya i was going to just set it up for fly casting at the river mouth but my girlfriend was having fun with the oars, i was going to switch to a micro leach but was havin to much fun, just like you said a few seconds after each intemittin rowing and wham , love watching them hit caught about 10 and missed 3 or 4... some serous airtime on some of them suckers.. the rod is a redington topo 9 foot 5wt 4 piece . a bought it as my beginner rod , seems pretty good but i haven't switched to a sinking line yet to try that. with the electric i just keep droppin it in to neutral to slow things down. what other fly do you suggest to drag around on top?

If your dragging flies, leeches are hard to beat, around a size 6 fly is probably my go to if I am trolling. If you are anchored,( and make sure you anchor at bow and stern) I recommend fishing a chironomid, or casting and stripping a leech. You can also try a booby fly, (yes thats what they are called) with foam eyes but you need a sinking line for that.

good luck

Nice thanks for the tip, i will try the leeches tomorrow but need to get a anchor, if you anchor at the sandbar at second lake and let your fly float over the transition from 2 '15 feet deep you always get takers, much bigger fish in there then i have caught yet, fourth lake is open starting next monday for hunting season, some big cuttys in there too. will be giving that a go when i get back in October.

5 cuttys and 4 rainbow trout today, best part about my 10' jon boat is can still go when my buddy bails last minute040.jpg043.jpg039.jpgmicro leech and the cowichan spoon, guess i need more weight to get deeper biggest was about 13 inches..

That is the gate at the top of second, closed for fire season opens next week to allow hunters in. the boatlaunch is just pass the second or third cabin at second lake, a gravel road that leads off down towards the lake. there is a sign there that says recreation area SLOW....best suited to aluminum boats, or small powerboats :)

This is a great lake for kids, lots of stocked trout, i use a size 8 barbless hook 18 " behind a willow leaf gang troll, also from shore a boober and worm combo is great.
Cheers Jeff.

Thanks Rockdog, was happy to get a couple day trout fishing in this weekend as i am sitting in the Nanaimo airport waiting for my westjet flight to Alberta. Hope they are still biting good when i come home from work in 24 days or so.. Off to Cenovus camp Christina lake as the hunt for underground hydrocarbons continues... look forward to reading everyone's reports and posts.
