Hey folks. I am considering the purchase of a new high performance Scotty rigger. Should I consider the braid to be a no brainer purchase or would the standard Scotty downrigger cable suffice? Thanks if you reply.
Depends Bif, if you have a boat where the lines might end up bumping your boat (aluminum) or other gear you might want to stick with the old cable. But as for me I switched to braid years ago and I've only got good things to say about it. Depending on how deep you fish you may want to go with the Power Pro or Tuff-line 200lb. But if you regularly fish 140 or less I'd stick with the Scotty 250lb.
The new HP come with the new HP stainless , I was gonna switch too but why not use up the S/S first then respool later with braid if need be?
unless your absolutely hooked on braid.
You can get the new HP's with or with out braid.
Just depends what you want.
If it were me I would go with the braid as it lasts longer.
Some say the SS cable attracts more fish.
Not sure but after a year or two the SS cable needs replacing.
Don't know how long the braid will last as mine are going on two years with no problem.
GLG
GLG is right you can get them with braid or stainless, I forgot about the 'B' modles.
I bought the 2106 simply because they were out of the 2106b where I bought from But the 2106 is on for 595.00 at Berrys and the 2106b is 619.00 and yes they do ship, awesome bunch to deal with too.
looks like they have carried over their fathers day sale
I do have an aluminum boat, maybe I'd be better off with the SS cable. I didn't realize that the HP's had a different cable than the normal riggers. Thanks guys for your replies, good food for thought!
