Doing some last minute work on the gear for Monday departure to Bamfield. Found the pulleys on both riggers seized up. Pulled apart and cleaned up good, tiny bit of grease and sanded out some burrs in the pulley groove. All good now, spinning as it should . I wonder how long they had been not spinning and how many out there are like that..
Easy fix and something I will watch closer from now on..

have a look at the pulley surface where the line runs and make sure it isn't grooved. that seems to happen to them once the pulley's seize. can also cause the braid to wear or break if running braid.

Something to watch for and I don't think many shops check it when servicing. Not new and it happens to many!!http://www.sportfishingbc.com/forum/showthread.php?24481-Down-rigger-Gottcha&highlight=pulley

I had both my units fail last season within a day of each other. Never experienced this on my old Scotty's, however with the new high speed guys I wore them out in one and a half seasons. As suggested, if you take them apart you can apply some grease to help the bushing. My theory is the high speeds are going way faster than these units were really ever designed to go.
