Scotty downrigger prop

Not sure what else to call it, that little red thing in the base that allows the rigger to stand straight up and not fall over. Now that l've made what l'm talking about clear ( l hope), I'm curious as to how many people actually use it when travelling or? . For myself, since l put on the swivel bases l never use them, I just swivel the boom to the stern. Of course l can see using them without a swivel base, for travel etc., but does anyone use them with the swivel base, say for getting the boom etc. out of the way when playing a fish.

i find they just allow the rigger to bounce, snap the red thing and then end up sticking out into traffic til someone tells you.... i swivel the boom in

Before I had swivels, I would use the prop but attach the downrigger cables together clip to clip. No more riggers sticking out into traffic

I used to connect the deeplines together in the tilted up position, otherwise you hit a bump or two and the little red deal pops out, but now I have swivels...

I don't use them for travel but do use them on the boat for various things-retying braid, freeing or cleaning pulley' sometimes netting. Saves them slamming down.

I use but currently have a broken one, I think I have busted 3 over the years. Scotty replaces easily if you can find locally. Snap both sides together inboard with clips when travelling.

I use a bungy between clips on my bros boat, saves bumping it to far into position ,no swivel bases, red props still there. My boat has manual fathommasters by penn, with a tight line pin release ,I have the centerpin of my choice.
