I've been running the locks for 2 years and found the best way to keep them from rusting is to put a healthy dose of petroleum jelly into the lock. The rubber covers can be a pain and yes need replacement each season. I tried to get mine keyed with only one single key, and no luck and that was dealing direct with my friend at Scotty. They know about the key issue. I would shy away from the hex bolts because they are not at all difficult to defeat.
I ended up going with 4 x stainless bolts until I can get the locks replaced. Like others mentioned, the locks only slow the bad guys down. On the one lock where I broke the key, I was able to cut the 4 plastic thumb screw tabs off in about 2 minutes. A good set of vice-grips and you could snap these tabs off pretty quick and defeat the lock. Torque the bolts down tight and I think they are almost as secure as they were with the locks.
The locks saved us last season from losing both of our riggers! Whomever thought they needed them more than us took the other three bolts off both riggers and then stopped leaving only the locks...and the riggers...saved our vacation plans!
so ive got my boat in the marina for the 1st time,
ive signed a years lease, im llooking to use it a few times a week now, but i dont have a cuddy,
do you all leave the riggers on full time?
do you think the lock are worth it>?
i dont want to carry my riggers forward an back to my house.
anyone have better ideas?
cheers i
Locks are made for honest people. If the bad boyz want them they'll take them. You can make'em work for them, and not just picking'em up. Make a storage box to fit the riggers and bolt it to the boat. You can use it as a seat as well. You running a CC or something like that?
