I have 2 scotty downrigger's model the new ones 2106 b and have had a problem with the line breaking at the tuna line also scotty when it comes up to the pulley. I end up looseing scotty tuna line, scotty line clip ' scotty snubber and a 20lb ball. It has happened 3 times on 2 different downriggers. I am tying a polamar knot and it is not comming undone the braided line is breaking. Have contacted scotty and waiting to hear from sales rep. Has anyone else had this problem and I will let everyone know what scotty comes up with. Big D

I have not heard of that but Scotty is real good about taking care if there customers. I just bought 2 of the Scotty tuna cord things so hopefully doesn't happen to me. It happen 3 times to the same cord or all different?

Another reason that I use scotty products. Just off the phone with scotty rep and says he will take care of my problem. Only took 2 hours to have the anwser I wanted to hear. Good on you Scotty.

20lb??? Is that absolutely necessary where you are fishing??? 15lb balls are much easier on the boat as well as the rigger.. just a suggestion.

Not absolutely necessary but much nicer when you are fishing at 200 + feet and there are strong currents and scotty advertises the HP models have unbeatable pulling power lifting 20 lb. weights with ease at 260 ft/ min. PS not that I like to fish that deep I would rather be at the 20-30 foot level but area and fish don't always cooperate if you know what I mean. Big D

Quite often the line will break at the knot, not because its weakened, but because of momentum. Your cannonball is coming up so fast that it continues to rise in the water after the motor shuts off. It then drops back down rather quickly and POP your line snaps. You can lessen the chance of this happening by having the cannon ball stop 10ft down. You can also use a 20ft of tuna cord and join it to the downrigger line with a splice(nail knot) so that it does not shut off the motor. In this way you will have a few wraps on the spool when the double overhand knot you tied in the tuna cord reaches the stop button.
