picked up a scotty "butterfly" at net and twine yesterday, thought it looked intruiging.

just asking if anyone has experience with these hootchy actionizers or any tips to share, hopefully the thing will work, maybe allowing me to fish the hootch. without a flasher.

??

Remember, it's called "fishing," not "catching."

they are a plastic lip you stick in the front of a hootchy, looks like the diving lip on a rapala plug if you know what im talking about, they come in several colours (mine was green) and were recommended for coho by my buddys gramps who was a former commercial troller (pretty sketchy on details tho). I've heard of them mentioned in older bc outdoors atricles for pinks so you dont havea flasher and actually get a fight out of the things.

I've seen them made up as complete units in the stores.......Never used one though. GET OUT and post a report.

Btw. How much $$$

Some like it rough...
Others just puke!.

I know the unit you mean there are a few variations on the market-
Scotty no longer makes the one you have.
While it makes a hoochie wriggle they are also quite speed sensitive much like an Apex so with today's faster speeds aren't all that popular.

thanx dogbreath ill have to keep that in mind

mr dean unfortunately i will be going to calgary on wed for a few days so unless i give it a trail off nanaimo beforehand it will be a while before it hits the water. i think it was like 68 cents or something around there for the device. i have a good feeling about this little thing though.

Got one but never used it, still in the package. Now that you mention it I will try it next time I am out off the fingers. I have seen them in Bass Pro shops web sites and Cabelas

Used them on a commercial troller along Vancouver Island and in the charlottes. They worked well for coho. Caught the ODD spring. Troll fast with them like you normally would for coho. We never used them behind a flasher. I wouldn't say they worked better than spoons but...if you get the right hootchie they work great.

We used to use them quite successfully fishing commercially for coho later in the season, when the larger coho arrived. Pick the right hootchie and they are deadly. I use them every year for sports fishing since they weigh next to nothing but have such a great action. When you get an 18 lb coho on one of those it zips around like a ping pong ball in a box car.
