That bomber's a better picture... That was probably it, the mouth's the same. Thanks

Orange is the ??spawning female colour?? They're just orange-gold instead of green-brown. I catch about 2/3 green-brown & 1/3 orange, usually about now till June/July.

I've seen pictures of Sablefish & know they're not rockfish.. Are they accessible around Vict to Sooke shore, inside 275' from shore? I can't cast further than that, and 275's a max-perfect cast with wind for me. Most often 175'-250'.

Mashed barbs.. Weigh scale is a Rapala lip-grip electronic... for the fish, never a problem, hole or broken jaw.. maybe a tooth or two. Great tool for bushwhacking, cliff-scrambling solo anglers, no hang-ups, easy access, no fumbling a net, never a lost fish nor dead release. If it's mouth is open, it's landed. No hooks caught in a net. Cheap, strong tool. I don't believe I'll be catching too many 200# halis from the rockpiles that I'll worry about handling them. They wouldn't fit in my backpack anyway. It's not too often I use it because I don't get many big enough to need it. But, my ex-girlfriend's son was with me & wanted to know how much it would weigh. It was 3#10oz. The rest were bigger & smaller, nothing 65cm+.

(A lot of sea lice & fast crawlers on them. haven't seen that elsewhere.)

Of course, darned if I'd like that thing shoved in my mouth. Flip-side... I wouldn't want a hook in there either.

Again guys, thanks

Forget my Sablefish question... 183m-1800m depth. But, they are around here.

Thanks

The proper name of the "black sea bass" is Black Rockfish and that is why if falls under the rockfish regulations.
