Sad Day For Fishing For Me.

I have been fishing with a friend on his boat and with his family, friends, and clients for the past 6 years. He is now 77 and has determined fishing is getting to be too much for him and he is retiring. His boat is going up for sale in the upcoming week. It has been a good run, and we have caught hundreds of Springs. If you are looking for a nice boat (2 yrs old) it will be at the Port Alberni Boat house.

There will be a lot of great fishing gear coming up for sale on the forum in the next few days. Islander MR 3 reels, Avet HX 5/2 reels, best Shimano rods, Shimano Jigging rods, halibut rods, 20lb balls, net, anchor package. Most of it all new and all is the best of gear.

I am now without a boat to fish on. I have gas money, moorage money and all the gear for any type of fishing, bait and even anchor package. I have a commercial operator ticket, know the waters well and most of the time know how to catch fish and crabs in the Victoria area and the Sooke area. Check the forum Vic Oak Bay past reports.

If anyone needs a deck hand to go out fishing with them please get back to me.

Got to be a business opportunity in renting yourself out to teach fishing. Teaching passenger!

Doug, I'd be delighted to go out with you. I have an 18" Lifetimer cc and I have down riggers as well as chart plotter/fish finder and other stuff. I'm currently subletting a slip in Canoe Cove for the winter. I'm new to saltwater fishing so I'm keen to learn more about fishing around here. Message me if you're interested in making the trek up to Sidney.

I will be putting it back on the trailer in April, so when that happens I'd be interested in trying my luck in Victoria or Sooke. Halibut & Lingcod maybe?

Doug- I know exactly what you are facing. I am aging out (82) and have to start considering the alternatives. The OA in my joints doesn't make a bumpy ride that enjoyable. .I have been very lucky over the decades to have had several really reliable and knowable fishing partners that either had a boat of their own or a willingness to split costs right down the middle if we used my boat. I like your approach to look at alternatives to getting stuck in the recliner. Good luck.

I tried giving people fishing lessons. but most fisherman think know everything and don't call. It is a matter of pride.
I was charging $150 on their boat for salmon fishing and I would bring the bait and hook sets. Only had a few takers.
I was carrying insurance at the time so I had my butt covered, just in case if someone got hurt during my instructions but it was not worth it in the end. If you are paying for any fishing service make sure they have insurance, accidents happen.

There is a trick to catching fish and it has taken me 25 years in area 19/20 to perfect that skill. Also with fishing over 100X a year during chartering helps. That is why the old school guides like Pro Fisher, Blue Wolf, Tail Spin, No Bananas......... catch fish.
