Sacrificial Anode: Zinc vs Aluminum

All modern motors come from the factory with aluminum anodes. If you want to run zinc you have to switch them out. I run all aluminum on my boat. I was told whatever you do always have all the same - don't mix zinc and aluminum as the aluminum will be the one that does all the sacrificing. If you have a modern motor and you put zinc on your boat - good chance your motor is your anode as they will be aluminum and are a farer metal. Aluminum was recommended by northwest and that is why I use them on my aluminum boat. As stated above its best for salt / brackish water- also it's cheaper.

Don't forget to replace your internal zinc's. Attached below are series of pics showing how worn they can be (300 hours, 1 season). Super easy to remove/replace - attached few pics showing various stages of the replacement process.
