Lps or corrosion block I have both on the boat way better than wd-40 as it doesnt coat and is made up mostly of water.
LPS spray it on the engine etc. The corrosion block is good for electrical as well comes out of the can a bit funny (a blue foam) but then spreads evenly Iuse it on my connectins for the downrigger sockets,radar,and sounder ends as well.

use good quality stainless and rust wont be a prob., failing that, I use an acid cleaner to remove rust stains.

I usually hose my boat and equipment down with this stuff called "Salt-A-Way" Comes with a mixer you attach to your hose. Haven't have a problem in seven years so far. Even use in to flush my engines. Pulled the heat exchanger last year and looked like new inside. I know this stuff really works after that.

Wd-40 is NOT made up of water. It is a water displacer. From online:
according to U.S. Material Safety Data Sheet information, are:
* 50%: Stoddard solvent (i.e., mineral spirits -- primarily hexane, somewhat similar to kerosene)
* 25%: Liquefied petroleum gas (presumably as a propellant; carbon dioxide is now used instead to reduce WD-40's considerable flammability)
* 15+%: Mineral oil (light lubricating oil)
* 10-%: Inert ingredients
The German version of the mandatory EU safety sheet lists the following safety-relevant ingredients:
* 60-80%: Heavy Naphtha (petroleum product), hydrogen treated
* 1-5%: Carbon dioxide
Stoddard Solvent is NOT water either, nor made of it.

Ok nebarb as it appers you love wd-40 can you answer me this when you use this product how come even after a day it still becomes rusty?? just from the air??
the guy asked what to use to fight rust and the products I use work great from many many years of use on my boats.
WD has its uses not on my boat great for auto and love it in the shop thats about it.

and i simply replied that your wrong about what wd40 is made of, nothing more. And oxygen causes rust, not water
water reacts with metal which makes it vulnerable to oxygen. Im assuming if your seeing rust after wd40 was put onsomething after a day, which i have never seen, a similar reaction would be taking place.
For many years i have pulled the lid on my outboard, used engine cleaner, rinsed and dried three times a year then coated everything with spray grease.
A couple years back i took it to a marine repair shop to have the charging system looked at (1985 Evinrude 140 VRO) and the mechanic said he had never seen one that old so shiny new looking with zero rust!
As to the rest of the boat, spray grease also wherever possible.

So how do you flush your motor with this stuff? From a barrel? How harsh is this stuff on non metal? does it rinse away

It comes in a dispenser that attaches to the end of a garden hose and then connects to the flush port or muffs on your boat. You flush the boat as normal (on mine, I run the boat with the Salt-Away attachment running until soapy bubbles appear on the water). You then let the boat sit with the Salt-Away in the cooling system.
It can also be used as a boat soap. It does not rinse away but leaves a film on everything that protects it from salt build up. No damage to any metals, glass, plastic etc. I use it to rinse all my fishing gear, rods, rigger etc. Works great. As above, changed my manifolds this year and they still had years of life on them.
