Running Active Pass

Going to a wedding September 23-25th on Galiano and will be going through Active Pass.

Anything I should be aware of/concerned about? Times not to go through it?

I have a 19 foot arima with a 150 yammy on it, so its not exactly a dinghy.

Thanks

Shane

you'll be fine. It's typically very calm in active pass (waves) but the currents can get ripping to 5+ knots. Nothing your boat can't handle. If you're in a sailboat that goes 5 knots max that is another story.

Don't buzz by the small open hull moochers while they're fishing, they're dangerous ;-)

You'll be fine. Check weather (rare, but big waves do occasionally show up on the outside) If you're concerned about ferry traffic (it's not *that* tight), they'll always broadcast on VHF 16 before their vessel enters the pass.

lol, im actually getting married on Galliano Island on Septh24th! and I also own a arima 19! too weird... ive taken my boat through there a few times and there were no issues. However, I always feel sorry for the sailboats that are bucking the tide in active pass and are actually staying in the same spot for hours!

See ya over there!

lol, I realized that after I sent the msg yesterday. Heather and I had a good laugh.. 150 must move your rig! im running a 115 and find it JUST sufficient. we are trying to get our Albin 25 repaired for the wedding (diesel engine troubles) but may not have it fixed in time :(

see you in a week!
