Rot Cord On Prawn Traps

Has anyone installed Rot Cord on their meshed commercial style prawn traps as per the new regulations? Would welcome any suggestions as to a reasonable way to do this.

I’m just looking into this myself as well. Originally I thought you could add a section of rot cord to the bungee cord hook but I’m not sure if that would be considered legal as it’s on the bottom of the trap.

I have done mine- Ladner style traps. I made mine triangular in shape on the top of the trap, following the natural alignment of the mesh rather than trying to cut a rectangle or square into it. Just made more sense to do it that way.

Thanks for the picture. Nice stitch work. I’m having trouble finding larger diameter rot cord so far.

and that was us getting off easy. could have been 570 per trap (x4).... kind of o shipty ticket IMO. its not like we were harvesting yelloweye or over our limit on prawns, or harpooning baby dolphins..

I haven't done mine yet, but my plan is to also cut a triangular flap in the top, but then lace it back together with one strand of cotton twine.

the way I read it, a triangle is not an acceptable shape. square or rectangle only
I have checked with DFO and was told triangular is fine as long as the area of the hole is the same as a square or rectangular hole. My triangles are about Base= 15cm….Height=15 cm so area is 225 divided by 2 = 112 sq cm. Big enough!

IMG_6173.jpegThis is what I stitched up today. I stopped by the DFO office to get their opinion on this style of trap. They pretty much said that you’re legal as long as there is an escape spot/ rot cord.

Not trying to be critical but am curious as to how this works? It appears that there are 3 strands of cord some doubled, (I may be wrong but I believe I see 6 cut ends). I can see, perhaps, a single strand on the right and left leg but there are locations that are half hitched to the nylon mesh in multiple places, so not seeing how this falls away to reveal the required size opening.
